Lou Graham
My work is intuitive and explores the world around me, and the experiences I have had in my lifetime – both in the city and in Deniliquin. I love using things from my environment to make marks on my work, as well as for the collage pieces which I then incorporate into my artwork.
I have always been creative, but when I finished working full time, I decided the time was right to begin painting. I attended some casual art sessions, and then through joining ERAS and going to Grampian Brushes workshops, I discovered my own style and developed some knowledge about the art I like. It has become a real passion – every day there is something new and exciting to learn.
I was encouraged to put a piece in the Deniliquin Rotary Art Show and was awarded the Local Artist Award in 2019, and an Acquisitive prize in 2020. The feedback inspired me to keep going and to share my mixed media work. Since then I have had numerous private commissions and continued to show at our local Easter Art Show. My contemporary abstract art uses mainly acrylics with other mediums such as inks, pastels and charcoal on paper or canvas.
