Developing Harmonious Abstract Landscapes in acrylics with Lars Stenberg
Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October 9.00am - 4.00pm
Edward River Art Society Sunday School
Discover the power of colour to transform an ordinary landscape into an expressive and personal work of art in this inspiring weekend workshop with acclaimed artist Lars Stenberg.
Moving beyond simply reproducing what we see, this workshop explores how colour can be used to capture the feeling, mood and atmosphere of a landscape. Learn to interpret the world around you in a more imaginative way, creating abstract landscapes that communicate your own emotional response to a place.
Working from your own landscape photographs, Lars will guide you through the fascinating possibilities of colour harmony and how different combinations of colours can dramatically change the character of a painting. Discover how thoughtful colour choices can evoke a sense of warmth, tranquillity, drama or energy, while bringing greater unity and expression to your artwork.
Throughout the weekend, you'll explore:
Colour harmony: Understanding how colours interact and how to create pleasing, balanced and expressive combinations.
Mood and atmosphere: Discovering how different colour palettes can influence the emotional impact of a landscape.
Abstraction: Moving beyond literal representation to interpret the landscape through colour, shape and personal expression.
Developing your colour language: Exploring your own preferences and discovering ways to use colour with greater confidence and intention.
Creative interpretation: Learning to use your photographs as a starting point for imaginative and expressive paintings rather than simply copying what you see.
Using acrylic paints, you'll have the opportunity to experiment with different colour relationships and discover new ways of approaching landscape painting. While the workshop focuses on acrylics, the principles explored can be applied to other painting mediums, including watercolour, oils and pastels.
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to expand your understanding of colour, challenge familiar painting habits and develop a more personal and expressive approach to your art.
Come along and discover how colour can help you paint not just the landscape you see, but the landscape you feel.

About the artist
Lars Stenberg is an accomplished artist known for his colourful, expressive landscape paintings and inspiring art workshops. His work explores the relationship between people and the environments they inhabit, reflecting on how we shape our surroundings and how they, in turn, shape us.
Growing up in a coastal region of Scotland, Lars was surrounded by striking contrasts, from peaceful rural landscapes to coal mining and heavy industry. These early experiences have had a lasting influence on his artistic practice, inspiring his interest in the connections between landscape, environment and human experience.
Lars's work has been exhibited internationally in London and New York, as well as extensively throughout Victoria and New South Wales. While particularly recognised for his vibrant landscape paintings, his creative practice extends beyond traditional painting to include digital media, audio and assemblage.
He is also the co-author of two books on environmental accessibility and has undertaken several large-scale public art projects in both the United Kingdom and Australia.
Alongside his own artistic practice, Lars is known for his engaging and inspiring workshops, encouraging participants to explore colour, develop their creative expression and discover new ways of interpreting the world around them.
